Marcelle Cahn

In search of space

FROM 15 OCTOBER 2022 TO 5 MARCH 2023

The MAMC+ presents the first major retrospective dedicated to Marcelle Cahn (1895-1981). In terms of the history of 20th century art, this artist’s career began on the margins of the Expressionist and Purist tendencies and flourished in the 1950s with a lyrical yet highly rigorous free abstraction, from which emerged the remarkable achievement of the relief paintings and spatial paintings of the 1960s. From the infinitely small to the quest for an architectural space, Marcelle Cahn (who never renounced figuration, considering her “lyrical things” as a “recreation”) developed a singular language of purified and sensitive abstraction, devoid of dogmatism.

The House of Dust

Women's work (1960-2020)

FROM 19 NOVEMBER 2022 TO 10 APRIL 2023

Echoing its programming, attentive to women artists, the MAMC+ proposes a new hanging from its collections that strives to improve the visibility of women’s creation, which represents only about 4% of its 20 000 artworks.

Marc Camille Chaimowicz

Zig Zag and Many Ribbons…

FROM 19 NOVEMBER 2022 TO 10 APRIL 2023

The MAMC+ gave carte blanche to Marc Camille Chaimowicz for his first exhibition in France of such importance. Starting from the Museum – its building, the industrial history of its area and its collections where art and design both found their place – the artist has conceived a conversation between more than eighty pieces he realized from the 1960s onwards and thirty works or so from the Museum’s collection. Chaimowicz unfolds those mixed artefacts within discreet dramas, between environments and interior designs, as sequences of a tailored screenplay: "Zig Zag", "Rachel et Graham", "L’entrepôt", "Peintures 1", "Peintures 2", "Du Textile", "...Many Ribbons".
