The "Bigger than life" exhibition is an invitation to discover contemporary and ancient paintings which have been chosen for their monumental scale.

This collection of contemporary paintings allows visitors to look back over the history of the collection, and of the acquisitions policy which was in place before and after the Musée d’art moderne opened in 1987. The high ceilings of the exhibition halls, which have now been renovated, have enabled successive directors and curators to be increasingly ambitious in their choice of paintings, selecting monumental works to add to the collection.

Part of the collection of ancient paintings, which was transferred from the Musée d’art et d’industrie when the Musée d’art moderne opened, will be presented in the exhibition rooms and as part of a conservation-restoration project which will be on display to the public. Several largescale restoration projects will be carried out and put on show for visitors throughout the exhibition period.
