The MAMC+ is proud to launch the first Prix des Partenaires [Partners’ Prize] with an exhibition dedicated to the young artist Marina Perez Simão. Discover a world that is as elegant and poetic as it is disturbing and enigmatic.

On thin paper, fragile, almost translucent silhouettes are drawn. A dark mass disturbs this apparent tranquillity. The environment of Marina Perez Simão’s drawings is hard to identify: is it a dream, a fiction, or the hereafter? Light and shade, good and evil cohabitate within an ambiguous duality that sometimes verges on fusion. The silhouettes are those of young women and the dark mass, a throng of black birds. Some come to devour or at least cover over their bodies. The work of the artist is similar to fiction and evokes the intimate world of these teenagers.

The graphic line of Marina Perez Simão is elegant and poetic. The paper used is very fine Korean paper that enables a play of transparency. The surfaces are painted on each side, in a mixed technique of pencil and acrylic paint. The transparent parts are rich in variation of shades, as though in mother-of-pearl while the blacks are deep with hints of ultramarine.
