A PRESTIGIOUS MUSEUM

The Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+), created in 1987, was the first regional museum of modern art. Its collection of almost 20,000 works is amongst the most important in France. It includes a majority of works from the 20th century, but also collections of design, ancient art and photographs. The luminous building hosts around 60,000 visitors each year, in an exhibition surface area of 3,500 m². Every year a dozen or so exhibitions invite the public to discover the collections, along with contemporary creations from international figures or young creators.

PROGRAMMING FOR ALL TYPES OF PUBLIC

The exhibitions, yes, but what afterwards ? The MAMC+ proposes an anthology of events: meetings with artists, conferences, festivals (dance, music, cinema, etc.), original guided visits, yoga courses, creative workshops... For all those who are curious, passionate, amateurs or leisure time artists, vibrate to the rythm of the MAMC+ experience !

A DIGITAL MUSEUM

And for a good reason ! The digital universe of the MAMC+ is designed to inspire, incite commitment and to delight our visitors, based on the following principles:

  • to render art accessible to all
  • to propose original immersive experiences
  • to create bonds
  • to adhere to our programming
  • to simplify your visit to the Museum

This is why we have designed our digital eco-system in the way we design our exhibitions: placing our public at the heart of the dynamic process.

AN INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM

You said "international" ? Each year 300 to 400 works are loaned and exhibited throughout the world. In 2017-2018 close to one million visitors were able to discover the master-pieces of the collection in the exhibition From Monet to Soulages presented in three different Chinese cities.

FIRMLY ROOTED IN A REGION OF CULTURE AND INNOVATION

The Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+) lies in the heart of a region of innovation and culture: the Saint-Etienne Metropole is the first French city to be designated as a “UNESCO Creative City of Design”. Each year projects are developed in the region, from hospitals to schools, from the Corbusier heritage to the International Design Biennial. Its exceptional collection is one of the finest in France, with close to 20,000 works !
